Troy University is home to the AAIEP-member English as a Second Language Center, offering exceptionally high quality English language instruction. Our ESL program offers six levels of English instruction on campus, with full privileges as a University student and many additional privileges, such as:

  • ESL Computer Lab
  • Conversation Partners
  • ESL Tutoring Center
  • Opportunity to earn academic credit for ESL classes

ESL classes are in semesters (beginning in August and January) and in five sessions per year (beginning in August, October, January, March, and late May). There is no TOEFL requirement to enter or exit the ESL program. We use the ACT Compass ESL test to place students in ESL classes. Your progress in the program will be based on classroom grades.

Students who are conditionally admitted to Troy University can waive TOEFL / IELTS by passing the ESL placement test upon arrival or by successfully completing the ESL program. This is done by completing the Advanced Level of ESL with a B average in classes. There is no TOEFL / IELTS requirement for students who are in the ESL program.

Some students come to Troy University in a group, just to study English. If you would like us to host your special program, be sure to contact ESL to arrange details: esl@troy.edu
